Welcome to TheIrelander.com, the online magazine for the globally curious, Irish at heart, and those just here for the craic. Before you dive into our stories, search your surname, or get lost in our folklore, here are the not-so-magical but very necessary Terms & Conditions you agree to by using our site.
Please read these carefully. By accessing, browsing, or using TheIrelander.com, you accept these terms in full. If you disagree with any part of these Terms & Conditions, do us all a favour and close the tab.
1. Who We Are
TheIrelander.com is an independently run online magazine and e-commerce platform. We’re based in Ireland (where else?) and we serve Irish stories and products to readers and wanderers worldwide. We offer original articles, surname heritage insights, historical explorations, and Irish-made goodies, all served with a wink.
2. Use of This Website
You may:
- Browse, read, and share our content
- Use the surname search and county features as intended
- Buy beautiful things from the shop (please do, our dog needs kibble)
- Comment, like, or engage with us respectfully
You may not:
- Copy, reproduce, or republish our content without written permission (we’re watching you, plagiarists)
- Use this site for unlawful purposes, scams, or to pretend you’re more Irish than you are
- Hack us. Honestly, if you’re that good at coding, build something useful like a self-buttering toaster
3. Intellectual Property Rights
Everything you see, read, and experience on TheIrelander.com unless otherwise stated is ours. That includes:
- Articles
- Design
- Illustrations
- Logos
- Custom-built tools like the surname search
You may link to our site, but you must not copy or modify any part of it without prior consent from our legal team (they wear suits, not cloaks).
4. User Contributions
We love your stories, suggestions, and surname facts. But if you send us anything, you agree:
- That we can use it however we like on TheIrelander.com and related platforms
- That it’s your own work or you’ve got proper permission
- That it doesn’t defame, harass, or breach anyone’s rights
- Basically, don’t be a wagon. Keep it sound.
5. Accuracy of Information
We do our very best to ensure everything is accurate, but we are human (mostly). TheIrelander.com is not responsible for:
- Typos or incorrect folklore (some of it is half-myth anyway)
- Historical debates sparked at family dinners
- You discovering you’re actually from Louth and not Kerry
- We reserve the right to update or correct content at any time without warning or apology.
6. External Links
Sometimes we link to other websites. They might be full of great stuff or full of nonsense. Either way:
- We’re not responsible for their content or practices
- Clicking through is at your own risk
- If it looks dodgy, maybe don’t click it
7. Our Online Shop
Buying from TheIrelander.com/shop? Lovely. Here’s what to know:
- All prices are in Euro unless otherwise stated
- Shipping costs and times will be outlined at checkout
- If you have an issue with your order, email us and we’ll sort it
- Refunds and returns follow Irish consumer law with a side order of common decency
8. Limitation of Liability
We’re not liable for:
- Any damage to your device caused by visiting our site
- Any loss incurred from relying on our surname trivia at a wedding speech
- Anything you do after reading one of our articles and deciding to quit your job to become a druid
- In short, we provide content and services in good faith. Use your own judgement.
9. Privacy and Cookies
We collect basic analytics and use cookies to improve your experience. For full details, read our Privacy Policy.
If you continue using the site, we’ll assume you’re okay with this. If you’re not, there’s always parchment and quill.
10. Changes to These Terms
We may change or update these Terms at any time. If we do, we’ll update the date at the top. It’s your job to check in from time to time. Ignorance isn’t a defence, even in folklore court.
11. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by Irish law. If there’s a dispute, we’ll try to sort it like grown-ups. Failing that, the courts of Ireland have exclusive jurisdiction.
12. Contact
Got a question, complaint, or compliment? Email us at hello@theirelander.com. Or send a pigeon if it’s urgent. We can’t guarantee delivery but we respect the effort.
Thanks for reading the fine print. Now go forth, explore your roots, uncover a forgotten myth, and maybe, just maybe, buy a T-shirt.
Slán go fóill,
TheIrelander.com Team
